Who We Are, What We Do

OSS was incorporated in August, 2004 for the purpose of advancing and commercializing chemical and biological agent detection research being conducted at the Laboratory for Surface Science & Technology (LASST) at the University of Maine. OSS is a small, high tech company currently supported through several contracts with the Department of Defense.

Our services and products are centered on developing innovative absorbent materials and sampling methods which enable trace level detection of chemical/biological agents in both air and water backgrounds.

OSS is also actively pursuing commercial opportunities in the areas of air and water quality monitoring.  Most recently, OSS has sought to develop an improved method for detecting petroleum hydrocarbons in industrial waste and produced water.
